Value of Check-Off
The Canadian Beef Cattle Check-Off is a mandatory levy collected from beef cattle producers when they market their cattle, and also includes an equivalent levy on imported beef and beef cattle. The check-off generates approximately $14.2 million (5-year average) for research, market development and promotion, plus over $1.1 million per year on imports for generic beef programing. Both levies aim to deliver value for the entire beef industry.
